Alaskan Adventure
« on: August 01, 2012, 06:30:25 PM »
Took out my new to me Samurai this morning for some adventures here in Kodiak.  Started out of town at 4:30 am, just as it was getting light.  I just put on a set of 235/75/15's that I wanted to try.  It just happens to be the first day of deer season so I brought along the long range rig.  Here was the view at Fossil beach.  40 degrees and liquid sunshine.

Free range bison, horses, and cows everywhere but no deer.  A lone fox on the hillside but too far to photo.  I travelled on a little ways and spotted a pair of deer on another ridge.  They happened to be both does, off limits in this area.  I did get excited and set up for them though.

I got out of there and headed down an old WWII Army road that has seen better days, now completely washed out and full of mud holes.  Unfortunately, it was too deep to stop to get a picture.  The all terrain tires performed significantly better than the stock road tires that it came with.  I decided to work my way back towards town and discovered there were quite a few road hunters out so I just enjoyed the drive.  Thought I'd share my day and the scenery.

Thanks!  If anyone is trying to talk themselves into an Alaskan fishing trip, here's your chance.  I run a charter boat in the summer and river guide in the fall.  Any ZW members that want to come up I will get you out fishing.  There's likely more trails here than road so if you want to play off road come on over!  Interior Alaska members- drive your rig on to the ferry in Homer and bring plenty of coolers for fillets.

BRD HNTR might be really hard to convince to come up to Alaska.  What with the retired life and all. :D

  You're both more than welcome to visit!  All I ask is you both bring loads of Samurai parts with.  These things are rare as hen's teeth around here...  The rivers are choked with Pink, Chum, and King salmon right now and Silvers to follow.  Heck, even my 4 year old can catch salmon!

Very nice looking Sammy.  Was it local or did you travel to get it?  I bet they go for a pretty penny up there.
