Title: BAJA 1000
Post by: AZBadseed on September 25, 2007, 10:45:39 PM
Anyone ever run in or see a Zuk run in desert races?? I am getting resources together to run the BITD Vegas to Reno race next season.

Just wondering if anyone out there has any info or experience!

Thanks!

I know Eric had some ideas on how to build a Desert Racer.  It is even an option for the next Zukiworld project, you can vote on it at http://www.zukiworld.com/forum/index.php?topic=18539.0

You can probably get a good discussion going on that thread.  :)

I think it'd be super cool to see one of the newer Grand Vitaras or XL-7's with the 4 wheel independent suspension in a Dakar race. Suzuki seems to focus its off road spotlight on its ATV's and dirtbikes more these days, though. :(

Suzuki is also a player with serious potential in WRC.

They should be racing later this month.  Wasn't October going to be the first of two planned runs in the SX4?

Suzuki has been cleaning up in the Junior Rally with the Swift for a few years now.

I was told that one of the Suzuki Vendors tried a Sammy in one of the desert races some time back, but can't verify that.
Here is a pic of a Zuk pulling McMillan accros the finish line at the SF race in Mexico a couple yrs ago.

just looking for basic support information for a race of this length. i hope this all comes to fruition, we are working hard to get some help on the vehicles. we have two and we are not yet sure if we will be running both.

for anyone running coilovers, what size springs are you using. we are are switching to that set-up because they ride a little nicer and are very adjustable. we are thinking about running kings but i dont think they will have a spring light enough so maybe we will run an eibach sping or something like that so i dont rattle my teeth out of my head.

thanks for the help!

Zooks race regularly in Western Australia's off road scene and do well, particularly in the 300 mile Gascoyne Dash - a tough desert race held in October.  Go to the website for some great photos.  www.offroadoz.net.au

In the mid to late 1980's I was involved in the Baja 1000 driving a chase car for a race vehicle in the challenger class. I can remember seeing two tan stock Samurai's that were entered in the race. I also remember hearing that they didn't make it to the end (La Paz).

I do not know if you have seen the topic that I put in this site: http://www.zukiworld.com/forum/index.php?topic=19935.msg167985#msg167985

But in Jan. 2007 I participated in a caravan to Morocco with another 4 Samurais, and was so good that this year Jan 2008 we will go close to 10 Suzukis.

And to help that caravan, we have one of the jipes in a Vote on this site : http://aventura.diasacores.com/2477/eu-fui.htm?tp_content=galeria

Only need that you vote in this image, and that disclose to all holders of Suzukis.

You can see my Blog too : http://paulovalido.blogs.sapo.pt/arquivo/2007_01.html

In Portugal we don´t have many ways to transform the Samurais but we have much willingness to participate in adventures.

You can see the main site of Samurais and anothers suzukis of portugal in : http://www.samuraiclub.com/
