Well I started calling salvage yards and I finally found a place that has a 4x4 tracker. Its a 90 5speed with all the parts I need pulled off, been sitting for 2 years and aren't going anywhere. The guy wants $450 for the front axle hub to hub, front driveshaft, and transfer case, and if I need a transmission he will throw that in for $200.

I don't have that kind of cash and wont for about 2 months, but I think I will do it when I get the money.

Ok well I've got the cash and I've talked the man down to $500 for everything including transmission, as well found another tracker sitting in a field I can take anything I need off for $300, just a lot more work.

My question, again, is do I absolutely have to change transmissions? From what I've heard from mikerpm4x4 and Ronin's writeup on zuwharrie, neither of them mentioned changing their transmissions. It would make things a lot simpler if I didn't have to, as well as cheaper.

Does anyone know for sure that the 2wd and 4wd transmissions differ, and there is no way for a 2wd one to mate up with a tcase?
