on my 91 kick there is a canister that is referred to as the "charcoal canister" in the owners manual on the passenger side panel near the front of the vehicle. It does something with emissions or fuel particles, but mine leaks fuel out of the bottom of it. any ideas why, or is it possible to remove it? I did do a body lift recently, but i checked the lines to and from the canister and they seem fine. Any tips?

The canister also filters vapors from the fuel
tank, there might be a problem there with
fuel not getting separated from the vapor and
dripping out of the canister.

There should be a return line that goes to the gas tank in the rear of the vehicle. I would disconnect both ends of that hose and check it with compressed air, if its clogged that will cause your symptom. Are you also getting a check engine light with this problem?

i do have a check engine light, but i believe that is caused by the EGR valve, and the light has been on for quite some time. i'll try the compressed air thing and report back

If you have a bad egr valve I would take care of that as well. if left alone it can really gunk up your vacuum lines and intake manifold, causing the engine to run rough and carbon will quickly gum up the entire system.

There is a one way valve on top of the gas tank that is part of the vapor recirculation system. Might be worth checking that it still works properly.

When you did your body lift did you disconnect the fuel lines near the gas tank? When I raised my tank I got the lines crossed and it did the same thing.

no i didnt disconnect the lines, and i cant see anywhere where they are unhooked.

my zuk dose the same thing but it leaks alot of fuel, i found that the fuel is coming from the vent solenoid on the carb anyone know what is going on here????

Float is sticking and over filling your bowl. Carb most likely needs service unless you changed fuel pressure dramatically.

91 has TBI, no carb, right? the canister only recieves vapors from top of tank, no liquid should go directly to it. could the canister be cracked at bottom? the vapors go in, condense, and gas leaks out the bottom?

91 TBI, I must have skipped over that and gave bad tech advise thinking you had a Samurai with a carb... Sorry about that.

I read somewhere that if you fill your gas tank right to the top of the neck, then gas can be drawn into the cannister
from the vapour line. Makes sense.
