Engine Options
« on: March 21, 2006, 09:21:17 AM »
Just wondering what engine swap options have been tried and proven in the Track-kicks.

I know that some have put in 4.3L V-6's, VW diesels, Suzuki 2.0L's and 1.6L - 16 valve motors in their rigs.

The motor that has got my interest up is the GM Echotec motor.  In the supercharged version it puts out 205 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 200 lb-ft of torque at 4400 rpm.  I know that they can be run in a traditional north-south arrangement.

In fact GM had one in a roadster at the Bonneville Salt Flats last summer that was putting out over 1000 HP and running well over 200 MPH.  I know that kind of power isn't needed for the little tracker that I have, but I do like the idea of 256% more power and the reliability of a modern factory built motor.  I also like the fact that being a 4-cylinder it should weigh pretty close to the same as the stock motor.

Just throwing this out for coment.  What do you guys think?

Mike

Being new here, I don't know about how you guys feel about bring up old topics that moved to the bottom of the list but this one got my attention when searching for engine swap info:

I would like to know if anyone ever went through with this. I think a 2.8 carb motor from a camaro/firebird would be a good swap, even with the stock 3spd auto. I also wonder if the newer 3100 like in my wife's '97 Grand Am would bolt up to that bellhousing. It would be a bear to get all the electronics right but I think megasquirt would take care of that. Everywhere you look you see a GM with that motor - Dime a dozen.
