I'm still searching for info, but in the mean time, could some one help me out?
I have a 93 Tracker, It's a 1.6 8v, and TBI.
I found a guy who is selling a longblock for 93-98 suzuki sidekick.
I think, as long as the long block is a G16K I should be ok?
If the long block is a 1.6 16 valve, will it cause any issues on my 1.6 8v?
MODIFIED (I've been searching)
Lools like I need to replace the wire harness and ECM if I go from 8v to 16v.
The 16V oil pump had a crank position sensor, the 8V does not.
Can I just remove the oil pump from my 8v and install on the 16 valve long block to avoid changing the wire harnesses and ECU?
What about the Intake and exhaust manifold?

Any help would be great, I'm suppose to see it tommorrow.

The bottom end, block pistons etc. are similar and interchangeable, from 16 to 8V engines,
but not from 8V to 16V engines, you don't even need to change the oil pump,
but you can swap the head if you know how to do that and it will work fine.

I made up my mind and will be picking it up tonight (can't pass up the price), it's a 16v.
I'm now trying to way my options, either buy a 8v head ($250.00) Or try and find a engine/dash harness for a 16v. I think it would be cheaper if I buy the 8v head. Then I can sell the 16v head to recoupe some money.
Hey Wild, is installing a 8v head on a 16v block all I need to do?
Will the compression change, and if yes what would it be?
I thought I read somewhere on the board that the 16v crank sensor is not installed on the 8v? This would require the 8v oil pump to be installed on the 16v block to avoid wiring issues.
Any other issues I'm missing?
Any input or advice would be appreciated!
Especially if you have converted from a 8v to 16v.

Well I picked it up.
Here is picture of it in transit. (I had to do the same thing when I replaced my 22RE in my Toyota, but this one is so much lighter)
I thought the 16valves had "16 VALVE" stamped on the valve cover? Does anybody know what year this 16v may have came out of? It's got my curiosity now.

Umm, sorry to be the one to ruin your fun... but that's not a 1.6l engine. It's a 1.8l dohc... there is nothing on it that will interchange with your 8v 1.6l.

Hope the seller will take it back being they told you it was a 1.6l. The 1.8l came only on Suzuki Sidekick Sport models '96-'98. To the best of my knowledge Geo never offered the 1.8l for the Trackers.
Another note, the reason you can put an 8v head on a 16v block but not 16v head on 8v block is the 16v pistons are notched to clear the valves, the 8v pistons aren't. Putting an 8v head on a 16v block will lose a little compression, though probably not much. Do the opposite & your valves will smash into the pistons even when properly timed.

Will the 1.8 bolt up to my 1993 5speed transmission? If so, then I would need basically everything to do the full conversion.

Hrm, not sure, but I'd guess you'd need a 1.8l bellhousing at least. That would be the easy part... then you'd need (probably custom made) motor mounts... the sport has a wider chassis.
Now the fun starts, just seeing the pics you'd need:
timing chains/tensioner/cover (this carries oil & can leak)
intake manifold & all its related sensors/injectors/fuel rail/fuel pressure regulator etc etc
exhaust manifold & w/e it would take to tie into your exhaust
water pump
oil pan
egr system components
ECU & complete wiring harness & then custom wiring to your dash harness
COP's x4 at $100+ each
MAF sensor & intake/filter system
Proper fitting Alt/PS
This list is sorta tongue in cheek cuz it's probably not even CLOSE to complete!!
Long story short, you'd be doing a total re-engineering of your current vehicle. If you were even seriously considering it, you should start with a running wreck donor Sport & even then it'd be way easier to swap tubs than to start with a block & try to make it work... They really are vastly different systems.
Me?... I wouldn't touch it. I'd contact the seller & get him to take it back... then find a good 1.6 8v & go to town.
Someone like ebewley who actually does this kinda crazy stuff (after all he transplanted a 2.5l V6 into GODZUKI2!!) could prolly make it work... but I'd betcha he'd start with a complete engine/harness & ECU at the least!!

No need for the reply unless we want it here for documentation purposes.
I will contact the seller and go from there. I should have taken a closer look, but I had never seen a 16v 1.6 head before. So I figured all I have to do was install a 1.6 8v head and call it good.
I do know of a Sidekick Sport in a junk yard, but the more I looked into what info was available, the more less documentation on the web I found.
Now that I know what it is, I'm either getting my money back or putting it up for sale.

is that a 1.8 or a 2.0 the bell housing will fit but u need a custom flywheel and pilot Bering full wiring harness computer etc and u have 2 run electric fan because the engine longer and u cant fit the stock fan between radiator and engine u have have radiator 4 that engine 2 because hoses are on opsit sides

Well I got a hold of the seller, returned the motor, and got my money back. It's nice to know there are still good people in the world!
