Instrument panel problem...
« on: September 14, 2005, 04:08:21 PM »
...it's always the little problems that kill you...So, in removing the old cluster (non-tach), I was careful to mark everything. However, the new cluster (with tach) is shaped different, and some things are, seemingly, missing. I marked the stud where the black wire (I assume the ground) attached to the panel...that spot is not ON the new panel. So, where does the black wire attach to the panel on a tach model? Thanks.

Well, I assembled everything, minus the black wire. Tach works, everyting else seems to work--one problem--my "check engine" light is now on. I suspect the black wire not being hooked in has something to do with it, but who knows. Also, I seem to have lost my horn--no, it's still there--it just doesn't work. Ideas? Thanks.

check the black wire with an ohm meter to see if it is a ground if not it could go to the ecm.

the check engine light switch should be somewhere under the dash.
I did this swap a while back but i can't remember having any problems at all.
Sorry for the little info.
also the horn is just a circuit that gets complete when the button completes the circuit the horn goes off. start chedking to see if you misaligned the horn wires if you messed with them.
