My live Axle first road test almost complete
« on: September 19, 2005, 01:26:44 AM »
After 6 weeks I went out for a road test Saturday morning before our club event.

I have used a Sammy front axle on coil springs under my Kick/Vitara,  I have used Jimny rear radius arms LWB coils, F150 shocks,  Other manu for the panard. etc.

I will take some more ics of the moutns etc, but she is sitting tall .

here is a few pics.

Found this on the bolt holes where my wish bones fit the bolt holes had elongated pretty bad, wasnt an issue as this had to goanyway

re positions top coil mounts

bottom ones of an old kick rear axle

re positioned coil mounts

checking ride height

quick flex picture to set the shocks etc

I will be updating some the pics soon and the write up on my site,

First road test found i was wobbling side to side,  got back home , and found play in the panard rod. i had used M12 bolts instead of M14. I had run out of time so I will pick up some M14 bolts this week and back to the road test.

Looks pretty sweet!!

2 suggestions, overly beef the FREAK out of that panhard bracket that mounts to the frame. I have seen quite a few rip apart and/or rip chunks of frame off. Granted it was in the Ranger/Explorer world (heavier rigs) but the concept is the same. A few good jolts and it'll rip that dropped mount clean off!

You really shouldn't need a steering stablizer (dampner). They are band aids at best. A good steering set up should not need one at all.

Excellent work!!!  8)
