LATE MODEL TRACKER GEAR QUESTIONS
« on: February 10, 2006, 08:32:22 AM »
I've got a couple questions.

1) Are the front and rear 3rd members from the earlier Tracker/Sidekicks interchangable with later model tracker/vitaras, specificly the 2.0L 4cylinder models?  I'm guessing I'd at the least need to use a 26spline front diff fron the later trackicks.

2) In which year did the kick front go from 22spline to 26spline?

3) Also, does anyone know the stock gearing on a  2000 chevy tracker 2door 4cyliner 5spd 4x4?

my 2.0L 4 banger has 5.12's, but it's an 03.... ZR2  get your VIN # and call GM's service hot line and they "should" be able to tell you exactly what's in your vehicle.

OK, so I'll need a Japanese built tracker to snag parts from....thats fine.  only one question, how many of the trackers that I see driving around in New Jersey and the surrounding area are made in Japan.  Is this going to be a fairly easy or nearly impossible hunt?  Also, if I'm reading this right I'm going to need more than just the diff for the front, mainly the diff, inner axle, and passenger CV.  Is that it?

um, ok...still means every one I see on e-bay is a canadian.  Why can't you use a 1997-98 canadian tracker?  What did the Japanese do different?

I'm not sure what the difference is, but if you look at a parts catalog they do list some of the front end parts as being different.

The only japanese built trackers i have ever seen are 1989 and a very few early 1990
everything after 1991 were canadian built

Stand down, MSG Arthur L. Lilley, your mission is now complete, may you rest in eternal peace.

Sidekicks through 1995 are 22 spline.
1996 and newer are 26 spline.

Were the X-90's all made in Japan?

I know my wife's 1999 GV is Japanese, but both of my 1995 Sidekicks (2-door and 4-door) were made at CAMI (Ontario, Canada)

Maybe the article is only refering to the need for the 26 spline setup.  I was under the impression that the diff housings were dimensionally the same  for all Track-kicks and Track-vits, so I should be able to swap the entire center section and passenger cv shaft from any 26 spline track-kick into my 2000 tracker.  Whats the worst thing that could be mismatched, the drive shaft bolt pattern?

I've been looking at this online catalog:

http://www.suzukicarparts.com

It looks like the diff housing is the same between the Japan and Canada built Sidekicks.  The Passenger side CV axle assembly is slightly different, but I'm not sure what.
