samurai 1.3 to 1.6 swap
« on: September 04, 2010, 12:12:08 PM »
i know this has been beaten to death but i just need a straight out answer for this. I have searched on here about this but just need to know one thing. When putting a 1.6 out of a geo tracker into the samurai is the trail tough conversion kit a must? such as the wiring harness, high pressure fuel pump, etc? or can you do it your self as far as the wiring goes and just buy a fuel pump for it? thanks

also my samurai is a 1994 that is fuel injected

If you swap to a 1.6L 8 Valve you can just use the block and head and keep your existing intake, exhaust and wiring.  You already have fuel injection so you won't gain much by swapping it over from the Tracker.

If you go to a 1.6L 16 Valve you will need to redo the wiring.  There is a really good write-up somewhere on the site for a full wiring conversion, I'll have to see if I can track it down.  But no, you don't need to pay Trail Trough for it.  But it does make things easier.  For the 16v conversion you will need a different fuel pump.

Whoa....the samurai EFI fuel pump will work fine with a trackick 1.6.
But as stated, you don't have to have any of the TT kit to do the swap, if you can source parts and come up with an engine to tranny adapter.

I thought the Throttle body vehicles had a lower pressure fuel then the direct injection models.

The EFI samurai pump will work fine for supplying the needed pressure.
