Ring & Pinion sizes??
« on: June 12, 2004, 09:27:12 AM »
Are Samurai and Sidekick ring&pinions the same size?? Just wondering because i see a place that sells 5.38 ratio gears and that would be perfect for my rig.

Those gears fit the front but the rears different, it's next to impossible to find to find those ratios for the rear.

Front and rear sammy and front kick and GV front are all a 6.925" ring gear. The rear of a kick and GV, not XL-7, are a 7.5" ring gear. From what I understand, the XL-7 uses an 8" or larger rear pinion gear.
Does that help everyones questions? If you need it, I can give all the gear options for all of the above.....?

Sammy........3.73 or 3.90(lwb and pickup)
Kick.............4.30, 4.62, 5.12, 5.38, and the rare 5.62(89 only, 1.3 kick 2 door, only)
GV...............4.10 and 4.88
XL-7............5.12, not sure about other ratios.

How's that? ;D

So what years and model kicks came with 5.38's??
I seen some on carpart.com from a 90 or 91 4 door that said they were 5.38's but i thought it might be a typo.
I will definitly be looking for those gears now.

There were a limited number of 89 Kicks that came out with the 1.3L motor. That is where you will find the 5.38's

I checked with carpart.com and all i can find in 5.38 is the front? What did they use in the rear? Also see the 1.3lts are 5.63 not 5.38
