fuel injection or carb?
« on: July 29, 2015, 08:20:23 AM »

hi guys
due to problems im looking at buying another vitara.
im looking at this as its resonible distance to me,the guy selling says its a carb model, but to me it looks injection.
this is a deal breaker to me as i dont want a carb version so can someone check the engine bay pics and tell me for a 100% if its a carb or injection set up....if injection then obviously i shall try to go for it,so major help needed quickly on this would be appricated.

I believe most if not all of the UK market 8v Vitaras were carbed, and that looks like a carb to me.

hi
im new to this forum so sorry for just jumping in with a quick question without saying hi first but i was trying to get a quick answer as i had to make a decision quickly.
so first off can i say hello to everyone, and great forum!!
well i pulled the trigger on it....im hoping its a tbi injection but hey ho ill find out sunday!!!
the reason i ve convinced myself its a injection is if you look at the carb/throttle body in the pic you can see a fuel pressure regulator, and underneith that there looks to be the adjustable tps....so with that reasoning i took a gamble....now can the experts tell me if it was a good call or ive just screwed myself :-\
all the best

I think it looks like it has a TBI system too.

Nah - I think you're good - looking at the manuals, there were TBI injected 8vs in the UK, and the presence of TPS & regulator is one way to tell.

Most of the early models were carb, EFI models were sold from around 1992 and the last carb models were sold in 1994, the last petrol models were sold in 2001. The carb models have a large round air filter housing.
