Sidekick antenna replacement
« on: July 31, 2016, 10:07:49 AM »
My radio antenna is bent and I would like to replace it.  How difficult is it to replace?  Are there any special considerations?

Easy peasy. It just plugs in to the back of your radio. The hardest thing is feeding the new wire through the pilar and finding it under the dash. Having a friend upside-down while you do that part is helpful.

Tie a length of string onto the old antenna cable before removing the antenna, tie the string to the new cable and use to fish the cable back into place.

Thank you both.  Yes, I have a carton of pull string ready.  My luck would have some hidden attachment in an impossible to access location.

I had a carton of pull string from when I pulled larger cable to my garage.  I pulled the radio out and tied the pull string to the antenna and tried to pull it through.  It got caught going from the crash bar under the steering wheel into the area under the A pillar and the cracked wire broke.  I used a fish tape to get the pull string up the A pillar to pull the new antenna back down to the radio.  The new antenna was a difficult to get into the a pillar, but I was able to squeeze it in and keep the gasket straight.

The antenna works better and runs up and down smoothly.  It was an easy fix to the problem.
