« on: August 24, 2016, 08:50:23 PM »
well I think that everyone knows the swap that im doing ... putting a 2.7 into a 2002 swb tracker. well already too fire her up filled fluids checked everything I thought :( . So I went to hook battery up and arcing ..sparks from battery terminals (keys were turned off) so im thinking that I don't have a ground wire hooked up or tight enough any thoughts welcome

Missing or not tight enough will not cause an arc - you either have something incorrectly wired, or if it's a very small arc, it might be normal.

bad grounds is all I can think of. arc is pretty bad, makes smoke on terminals ..so that bad  going to check grounds and starter alternator wiring

Heavy arcing would suggest you have a dead short (to ground) somewhere.

I do agree with Fordem.  I would pull all the fuses in the main fuse block (not the ones under the dash) except the ignition one (as it shouldn't have a draw until the key is on).  Then try connecting the battery, and replace fuses one at a time until you find the hot spot (probably blow the fuse).  Then you will know which circuit to find your short in.  (Divide and conquer.)
You are probably already working on it, but I couldn't get in this morning.  Best of luck!  Welcome to the world of wiring issues.

fixed arcing problem..... found out that hooking ground with starter is not good. ??? no arc when I hooked battery back up. I didn't disconnect that side of the wiring and the guy helping me didn't mark where it went to..... so maybe tomorrow VROOM VROOM  and figure out  what obstacles I will need to over come next, and figured out what the 2 plugs are, they are for rear blower motor and solenoid relay I believe. thanks for the tips guys. BRD are you around in 2 weeks or you hunting im heading down to Burlington on Sept9 and thought I would stop by and say hi what else can you get me to do

Elk season starts on the 10th, so I should be up in camp.   After a month of handling family crisis with my parents, I am letting others watch over them while I take a vacation.  I will regret not seeing you and the work you've accomplished.  Will have to get together soon afterward.
Nice to hear you have the arc fixed quickly and easily.  I just out the replacement O2 sensor in my tracker, one wire broke taking old one out, and another one broke when I was fixing first one.  Then I replace those wires backward, and ended up using a couple hours for a twenty minute job.  Those frayed wires were probably reason for the irradic readings and alarms I have been getting.  New O2's sensors do make it run better.  If you need them Amazon has them for $25 which is less than universals.

Glad to see you fixed your problem..  That is not a big deal that you won't be home I'm sure it's a well deserved vacation, and how better to spend it hunting. I'm only a short distance from you so when all the bugs are out I will take a run down with the tracker.
