Are these all the parts I need for a 2.3 swap? (with pictures)
« on: February 23, 2017, 05:33:09 PM »
Hi guys,

I'll swap a 2.3L engine from a 2007 Aerio (A/T) into a 1998 Chevy Tracker (M/T). I'm getting the engine and all other parts from a salvage yard out of state. They removed the engine and sent me some pictures showing the engine, some additional parts and the engine bay. They are asking if I need anything else (e.g. sensors etc.) to be removed and included in the package.
They will ship the crate as soon as I give them the OK.

If you've done this swap before or if you're familiar with it, could you take a look at the pictures and let me know if I need anything else. I'm not sure if you can see in the pictures below but I already made sure they sent me the dash harness, MAF, P/S pump, alternator and compressor. I also have the necessary parts from the 2.0 engine except the cast iron exhaust manifold (if you have one you can part with, I'd be interested). I bought the engine harness and M/T ECU off of Ebay.

Thanks for the help.

p.s.: I'd like to apologize to those who have seen the same post in my other thread in the Beginner/Repair section. I asked the moderators to move it over here but that didn't work.

How much did you snag the manual harness and ECU for? Most 2.3's are automatic so they are kinda hard to find. My donor was auto, but my daily is actually a M/T 2.3 aerio but It treats me too good for me to kill it yet lol.

I paid $160 for the harness and ECU. It wasn't the best deal but I had to get it done somehow.

I'm sure Aerio is a fun car but I expect 2.3 in a Tracked would be a blast  ;D

I could do 90+ on a dirt road in 4wd with 30x9.5 tires and had plenty of pedal to spare.  So yea, the 2.3 is a bit faster then the 1.6.  :D

I received my engine harness today. I'm not sure if I'll be able to swap the entire wiring when the time comes but I thought it would be a good idea to know what connects to where in the engine. I'm not familiar with the 2.3 engine and I'd like to ask for you guys' help identifying the plugs.

I labeled every single connector (there are 34 of them) in the harness and took pictures. You can see them in post #26-27 in here:

Would you mind taking a look at them and let me know where they go on the engine. I can take more pictures if they are not clear enough.

Thanks.

Hi guys I'm knee deep into this swap and I cannot figure how to install the power steering. TT says I'm supposed to use the PS pump from 2.3 and I did. Problem is that 2.3 PS goes on the passenger side of the engine while my steering gear is on the driver's side. Am I supposed to run PS pressure lines across the engine bay.

Thanks.

I'm not sure sure but I'll give you my moral support. Got any pics?

Took me a while to figure out the problem - you're swapping out a 1.6 for the 2.3 - I was thinking it was a 2.0/2.3 swap - yes, you'll have to run the lines across the engine bay.

All of the J-series engines (J18, J20 J23) have the power steering pump on the right side, the J18 was used in the Sidekick Sport and the lines run across to the steering box on the left - the J20 was used in the later models, with rack & pinion steering and the lines cross the engine bay on that vehicle also.
