Speaking of add on hard tops - is your noisey
« on: July 27, 2005, 03:59:23 PM »
I bought the 94 Tracker with a white add on protop. The top looks to be made from plastic and is grey inside and bare. It fits like the black protop instructions in the post another member did saying they can't get theirs to fit. This one is white and bare inside and about 5 years old I think. It squeaks alot and is generally squeaky, creaky, and noisey and if I hit a good bump I think the pop I hear is the top.
Is anyone elses top noisey like this? I am thinking of getting some tubes of roofing urethane and removing the two pieces and removing the seal and putting about an inch deep layer of urethane down then reinstalling to see if it is quieter/tighter since I never will remove it anyways. Maybe finding something to insulate the inside of it? Anyone done this?

Thanks,

        Mike

I have read your post and not sure why you cant get it on? You understand that the edge of the body fits into the channel on the top.The top doesn't fit under or over the edge.
Thanks,

Mine is a little noisy, but not as noisy as the soft top. I think you really need both soft and hard tops to hear the difference. Mine has a squeeking noise in the rear where it clips down, the edge of the plastic rubs on the clip, I'm going to trim it when I put it on again for the winter. It also leaks really bad at the top of the rear door, another thing to fix. I don't complain though, I only paid $40 for it.  ;)

mine was squeeky when i first put it on. i don't have the deluxe interior that a lsi would have, so it rubbed on the inside portion. what i did was take a plastic binder, and cut it into strips to slide in between the hardtop and body, now it's quiet.

i also found the softtop to be noisy, and mine was in great shape but the rear zipper was torn. so i found a hardtop for $360 which was cheaper than a new softtop. besides it rains alot up here so i figured a hardtop was better suited for me.

Thats cheap for a hard top. Does yours have the carpet on the inside or plain plastic?
Thanks,

Yeah I know, I have the LSI interior and it seems like the interior is too thick for the top itself.

Reread the instructions because you are not removing all that you are supposed to.
Thanks,

Dude there is nothing left on there. Everything thats supposed to be taken off has been. If I have to take me interior apart to get it to fit I think thats pretty lame.

Mine when I run it is quiet on the road, but creaks a little off road... Mine's a different brand from most, though. it's a fiberglass one, too, not plastic.
Had a cool sig pic till I changed the text... sigh...
