Well the diesel swap is done and I have the motor just about all broken in. It is sweet, I have my fifth gear back. I went with a 1.6l turbo diesel out of a VW Jetta. It is completely rebuilt and gone through.  I didnt have time or the space to put it my self so I had the guys at Acme Adapters install it for me. They are also the guys who make the kit for it.
 
The kit the make is pretty sweet, they redo the fly wheel so that it fits with the VW motor. They also make the engine mounts and an adapterplate. The cool thing aobut thier kit is that when you are done pretty much everything form the fly wheel forward is VW and form the fly wheel back in Kick. So it is easy to find replacement parts, beause there are no hybrid parts. Also if you want to put you kick motor back in you can just bolt it back into place and reuse your old flywheel.




That is a pic they sent me after they got the motor in the engine bay. I will take some newer completed ones as soon as I get some time.

For a radiator I have a 27in VW crossflow radiator with 2 12in Vintige Air fans. They are pretty cool they turn on when ever the motor get over 200 degrees and you can watch the temp gauge go back to 180. Also to keep the motor cooler we went with an Air Oil cooler. It cam out of an RX7 and it also has a thermostat so if it is too cold it will bypass the cooler. It lowers the engine temps by 10 degrees. Acme also make a GM alternater bracket, so i had them put that on as well. Even using the winch my volts stay above 12.

I just picked an intercooler off of ebay and I was told it should give me close to 20 more hp and ft lbs of torque :D. I can also turn up the boost and the injector pump ot get more power as well. To do that i have to put on a pyrometer.

So far I have been very happy with it. It took a bit to get used to the different power band, but i would say that it feels like I have atleast the same if nmot more power than the Kick motor. I really like the lowend torque. It will be sweet for wheelin. I am running at about 3000 rpms at 60mph, and it doenst heat up ar all. I dont run it any higher than that. I may switch to 33s to get some of my freeway speeds back, but it isnt a big deal. I am also getting 30+ mpg ;D, running 32 swampers and stock gearing.

Yes Acme does make stuff for the Track/Kick swap.

thanks for the feeback! Now I know my 4 door will be as good or better once I get mine in! (Next year)

Yeah my swap was done in a Kick....

It roughly came to $7000 installed and everything.  My dad and I went halve on it, kinda joint project. The guys at Acme had the rig for close to a month. The labor wasnt really the spendy part and they really do a nice clean job installing it. I know it seems like alot but when you look at the itemized recit it really wasnt a bad price to pay for what you are getting, the motor looks like it came form the factory with the diesel now. They did alot nicer job than I could've, they made all custom brackets to hold the oil cooler and radiator. They also rerouted the ehaust.  I know that they put in more hours than they charged for. Rebuilding the motor really raised the price, it around $3000. We also added the GM Alt and aftermarket gauges and a few other things that were optional.  You could do it your self for alot cheaper, especially if you can find a good used motor. That is the key, if you can find a good running motor with good compression then you will save your self a good chunk of change.



On a side note about the guys at Acme.....I had a prob with the fuel dilivery to the motor. I called David at Acme and he was at my the next morn at 8:30 to help figure out what th prob was. Then he took my gas tank and modified the fuel pick up tube to bypass the old fuel pump. he didnt charge me for any of this. The are great guy to deal with and very help full.

good to know about the fuel pump that was one of my concerns.
