Which motor does this sidekick have
« on: August 18, 2005, 06:12:05 AM »
Came across a Wrecked Sidekick I am thinking of bidding on for the motor to put in my Sammy.  It is a 1995 JX 4 wd 4 dr Sidekick.  95511 miles on it.

What value is it worth.  front side damage.  Door looks like it doesn't close and the front wheel is bent out.

Do you have a VIN? They still were making the 8v in '95

Unless you ran into something real weird

1995 4dr Sidekicks came with the 95hp 1.6/16v, basically the same bottom end as the 8v with a Single Overhead Cam 16 valve head and pistons to match....good engine, good power.
To install where an 8v was you will need complete engine bay wiring harness and computer as well as all the little goodies you can get. Make sure you get all the fuel injection parts and wiring.
I belive to put it in the Sammy you will need an adapter plate (build or buy), but it gives you close to a 50% increase in power.

Definately a 16 valve motor.

It has 1.6 Liter, 16-valve, 4-cylinder, SOHC engine with Multi-Port Fuel Injection. 95 HP |removethispart|@ 5600 rpm and 98 lb.-ft. |removethispart|@ 4000 rpm.

When rounding up parts for your conversion keep in mind that '96 and up motors are OBDII and will not be smog legal for California. On '96 and up donor vehicles you will need to get the second 02 sensor portion of the wiring harness in addition to the parts listed below.

You will need the engine complete with all of the hoses, pulleys intact. You will need the fan, starter, alternator, coil, air cleaner, exhaust manifold, head pipe, engine room wiring harness, under dash wiring harness, ECM, and speedometer.

In addition to this donor parts list you will also need a high pressure fuel pump, an engine adaptor kit, and slightly taller mounts or shims for the front 4 body mounts in order to provide for hood clearance. The donor vehicles wiring harness will need to be modified for use in the Samurai as well as the Samurai speedometer which will need the speed sensor from the donor vehicle adapted to it.

In my opinion Trail Tough is your best bet when doing a 16v engine swap. They also have a special going on and the conversion kit is currently 40% off the original price ;)

Thanks Guys.  I have been looking at the local Salvage auctions for a while and this one finally came up.  We will see if I get it.  I may end up storing it for a year or so till I get to doing the swap, or fixing it good enough to drive around.

I plan on Using Trail Tough for the adapter stuff.  He definately has the most complete and you can't beat the service.

BTW VIN is 2S3TD03V6S64

Looks like a strange VIN
doesn't seem to have the right beginning

The beginning is correct, but doesn't look like it has enough digits.  I can tell you that since it has that first S, it is not Canadian built.

LilRed is half right.  The 1st part of the Vin is correct.  The latter part is missing.
This is Canadian built.  It was built at the Cami plant.

Me too.  Guess they used different VIN codes for the Tracker and Sidekick even if they were both built by Cami.  Does your Kick have the S, Wild?

I don't think they listed the whole VIN.  I went and looked at it last night and put in a bid.  Not too high.  Bids close on the 23rd at 4:00 pm.

I have been watching the salvage auctions for one for a while now and this is the first one to come up locally.

BTW I am near Fargo ND.

Yeah, that could still be an 8-valve - I believe the "JS" trim line in 1995 4-door still had the 8-valve.

JX and JLX would be a 16 valve.

I can't say this is absolutely true, because both my 95 4-doors were/are JLX trim line, and my 2-door 95 (the Gnewt) is a JX trim line.

AFAIK ... all 4dr sidekicks (not trackers) got the DOHC 16V in '92
(from consumerguide.com ... "1992 Suzuki Sidekick: Four-door Sidekicks earned a power boost, adopting a 95-horsepower engine with dual-overhead camshafts. ")
