« on: August 21, 2010, 11:04:43 AM »
Could someone please tell me how to time a 1.6 16 Valve engine. The Geo was given to me and I need to time it.Have new belt and I'm putting in new Distributor.I guess I need to start from beginning of timing.Everything has been turned or moved. No damage to engine yet! ???

You can't damage that engine by turning stuff, but you have a mess
on your hands now.

Crank mark up, cam mark down, but there are several cam marks, and then
the distributor turns counter clockwise, on the 16V and clockwise on the 8V
so you need to keep that in mind while turning the distributor for timing adjustment

If you watch the #1 cam lobes (front of engine) you should be able to tell when
you have the right cam timing mark down, as both rocker arms will have a slight loose
tick, or use a feeler gauge to check them

Good Luck
