University of Oregon holds tours Friday and Saturday night at there observatory, camping on the mountain,  Play in the Millican Valley OHV area, Rock Crawl, Sandy Trails, and rocky trails. As a bonus, we have access to a Cabin on private land to base camp out of. This will be a 'Base Camp' type adventure. We will be dry camping in the OHV area.

Date September 2nd -4th

It is time to have this adventure! September 2nd -4th, 2006 - Labor Day Weekend. We will explore and run the trails in and around the S. Millican OHV park and take a night run to climb up Pine Mountain to the observatory and take a look through their telescopes at the heavens above.

BACKGROUND: S. Millican OHV area is not open for much of the year so this is a good opportunity to 'wheel an area not normally open. Pine Mountain gives tours of their three telescopes on Friday and Saturday nights during the summer months.

Itinerary:

  • 09/02 - Morning - Group Caravan from HWY22/I5 Shari's Parking lot in Salem, OR - leave at 10AM
  • 09/02 - Day - Arrive at base camp in the Millican OHV area mid-afternoon
  • 09/02 - Evening - take night 4x4 run to Pine Mountain Observatory
  • 09/03 - Day - Explore S. Millican OHV area
  • 09/03 - Evening - Beef Stew Pot Luck, bring a can of your favorite and a side
  • 09/04 - Day - Break camp and head home the 'back way.'
