Letters of Support needed - Lebanon, OR trail system
« on: January 12, 2006, 01:54:06 PM »
Attached is a letter explaining that there has been a group in Linn county located in the Willamette Valley, Oregon that has been working on building a trail system for recreational use. They are using government funds to buy land to make this happen. Initially, they were focused (and maybe still are) on hiking and biking non-motorized trails but when many, many people from the motorized recreational community have attended the public meetings some goals may have changed.

They need letters of support to push the project through with more support for motorized trails vs. non-motorized. If you agree with this program, please take the time to write and mail a letter (use the directions on the attached file).

Thank you, Eric

:-\ That says nothing about the Motorized vehicle trails  :-\ Or where to send a letter  :-\ I would send one from a deranged Floridian that was wishing he was n the Oregon back country riding across the desert  :) Good Times  :)

Yeah, I know... it's pretty vague. I considered just skipping it but I was hoping that some people in that area may want to get involved. It looks like the process has taken a turn for the worse (for motorized use) compared to all the glorious things I heard when the committee was started.... sigh.

Keep at it. We had the same thing here. OHV4TN did a huge push to get some trails opened with the federal money alotted for off road recreation. We (being Southern Four Wheel Drive Association) jumped right in to help out and actually did ALOT of the foot work to get it passed through all of the red tape BS.

Long story short, by the time all the red tape had cleared, there awere aread approved to build and maintain trails within BUT, 4x4 trucks were specifically EXCLUDED by a wheel base and vehicle statement within the BLM's paperwork. Motorcycles, atv's bicycles, horses, hikers, etc... were all included, BUT no 4x4 trucks. We asked at the meeting WHY they excluded us and they commented "we had no idea there was an interest in such a thing" :-\. The entire time they thought we were all ATV riders :o After a few more months they approved a revised version with us included.
