actually we have one of the three biggest dunes in south america , and top 10 in the world.
It's really hard to get all the way up. Here in Chile we only have two vehicles getting to the top.
450 c.i CJ7 and a Suzuki samurai 1600 conversion with dual stage nitrous oxide.

Its too bad the sand dunes here in Colorado cannot be driven on.  It is a national park now.  I hate hiking on them.  Of course, I dont care too much for the desert.  Too hot, dry, barren, ect.  When I was a kid we drove dune buggies on the Oregon coast sand dunes, that was a blast. Aahh fond memories of yesteryear.....

Cool Dunes, other than the size perhaps, your
desert looks like the Imperial Dunes Recreation
area here in So Cal.  and why not I guess we
are on the same huge fault line, runs from Alaska
to the tip of Chile   ;D

how would a Turbo SideKick do on those hills ???

Looks like a pedal to the metal kind of place...and the best part is no Sierra Club operatives anywhere. But there are no trees to hug either.

What is the elevation you were at and how far to the coast ?

I don't remember the elevation , but it's about 40 miles from the coast. Near to Copiapo city here in Chile.
