1.3 head on 1.6 block???
« on: June 09, 2008, 12:38:04 AM »
i have heard this can be done. i recently cracked my 1.6 head but had an extra 1.3 laying around so i swapped all the "guts" into the head and failed to recognize the port for the oil driven fuel pump for carbed applications. of course my 1.6 is fuel injected. so my question is, if i fab up a cap to cover the port where an oil driven fuel pump would normally sit, will this be a danger? can this be done, and has anyone else done this? let me know, thanks....

The neatest solution is to cap that off. The fuel pump is driven by an actuating rod from the camshaft, I would remove that too.

Suzuki has done it for years (EFI samurais have a plate over the fuel pump hole).  So to answer your question....yes, you can do it.
I can't remember now what the exact application is, but someone used a fuel pump blockoff plate from a chevy engine (probably a 305 or 350) to cover up the hole and it is either a perfect or near perfect fit.

Just use RTV/silicone to seal up the plate.

does suzuki have an oem part that they sell? where do you find the part for chevy? i figured fabbing my own would be easy enough.

I would assume you could get one from a suzuki dealer.....you'd have to call and check.
The guy I heard about that used a chevy one just got it at an auto parts store in the chrome/dress up section where they have all the "bling".
You could probably make your own too.

I made one up for my old Triumph when I switched to an electric fuel pump out of a sheet of aluminum.  Just take a piece of cardboard, cut it to size, then draw our your shape on a chunk of flat steel or aluminum of decent thickness, then drill your holes and bolt it in place.  Cake.
