Today I was thinking about doing a diesel swap on the tracker when it occured to me that there was a samurai tintop (minus the engine, trans and transfercase) at the place I got the tracker. I figured that this would be perfect for a diesel swap, and being a tintop, I can lock it. I ask the guy who owns the place how much he wants for it, and he says 450 bucks. The body is in good shape, the seat has a rip in it, but it isnt that bad, and it still has the stock wheels and no lift. I just figured it is perfect for a diesel swap because I can buy the trans and t case and piece it all together. What do you think? is the price right for a rolling chassis in decent condition? I figure a running one in its condition goes for about $2,000. If I obtain it, then the next step would be to obtain a diesel vw ;D.
Runnin' it stock with 225/75R15s and an unmodified 8valve TBI motor (I need a doug thoroley header and a cam) (more power) (1.6 liters of madness) (vroom + sewing machine sounds)

You California guys have all the luck! All we have here  in OH are rust rockets. I might have to borrow a big truck and come out and shop your junkyards! We have a rough time coming up with VW diesels as well. Go for it!

Just to think that there are ones cleaner than this one at that same junk yard ;D. There is a 1988.5 one that is really clean, along with two trackick 2wds(not so clean inside, but very rust free). I find it funny how toyota trucks rust out on the east coast, but have generally low miles, yet here in california, rather than rusting to pieces, they are usually driven, or 4wheeled to pieces. You can find vehicles here that have long since ceased to exist on the other side of the continent ;D.
