3 speed auto wont up shifht revs high but wont change gears any help appreciated

FWIW - the Aisin transmission we have like to be over-filled a little. They tend to slip on steep angles if they're not. I've not heard of anyone "blowing up" their trans 'cause it was a little on the high side.

Not sure about yours, but some auto transmissions have a "kick down cable" that works with your throttle. The more gas you give it - the cable does it's thing and tells the transmission you want to go faster, so it goes into "passing gear" (down shifts) until you let up on the throttle input. Perhaps the cable, or this mechanism is broken? Hopefully it's not a dead transmission. If it is, it's probably easier & cheaper to swap in a junk yard one (some Volvo trans are supposed to fit, and they're 4-speed).

For some reason I want to think that there is a vaccuum modulator on the trans that controls shifting! Maybe I am wrong but I swear that this happened to me when I swapped my trans and forgot to hook it up!

But now that I think about it, mine would shift but it was really high rpm's.

The 3 speed auto is a GM TH180c, and it sounds like you might of just changed trans fluid and all the crud and crap from not servicing the trans is now loose and stuck in the valve body.

The solution is to drop the pan and valve body, clean it out good, replace the gasket if you
break it, and put it back together. sounds scary, but if you are good at mechanics you will be
fine, otherwise find a friend that is.
