33s, SAS and Gearing Questions
« on: April 03, 2007, 10:21:38 AM »
So...  I got a good deal on a CJ D30.  Its 55in wide, 5X5.5 bolt pattern.  Available gears are 4.27, 4.56, 4.88 and 5.38.  I need to match it up to my Tracker rear.  I can get 4.875 out of a newer Tracker.  Is that gonna be low enough for 33s?  I can't find 5.13 for the CJ D30.  Or is there something close to 5.38 for the Tracker rear?  I dont really feel like swapping out the Tracker rear, I have a D44 rear but I spent the time to find a good matching front so I want to keep CJ D30 / Tracker axles in it.

Oh yea, its going in a 96 Tracker, 16 Valve Auto.

someone will chime in, but I am pretty sure there is a 5.38 available for kicks, and with 33's you will need every bit of it, and more actually. I have 5.62's with 31's and it is close to stock gearing again.  The auto tranny will help you, but xfer case gears would be much better for you in low range, for offroad.  Highway travel will be NO FUN with 5.38's and 33's....

As a matter of fact, check this thread:

Maybe I'll start looking for a Samurai T-Case and just double it up.  I'll stick with my 30s for right now and do the doubler before I mount the 33s.  According to a calculator going from 29" tire to 33" I would need 4.89 gears to keep it stock.  But spining 33s will take a few more HP.  I would like to keep it streetable, but with me ya' never know.
