aftermarket leafs
« on: July 18, 2007, 10:25:54 AM »
Im having difficulty deciding what to do for my suspension.  I had originally wanted to go with yj leafs but the bumper that im making at work attaches at the same place.  Im also having problems locating used yj leafs.  All that and the price of a kit and the leafs is putting that possibility out of reach for me.  So have any of you ran any aftermarket leafs, and how do you like them?  which ones do you consider the best?

I have a 1990 sammy with spoa and 32" 11.50.  I am scared to take my wife for a ride becouse she is 8 months pregnant and the ride is horrible.  I need to relocated my shock mounts and that would help a little but my springs are completely horizontal.

Thanks for the info.

most of the time it is the shocks that give you the bad ride, un bolt them and drive around the block real real slow you will see the diffrence, you need to find some old red ryders or a non gas shock, and get some rears up front (rocky road r.u.f. kit fifty bucks.) and you can go with an older spring that has more leafs if you want but most of the after market stuff that I have seen/used is not worth the money compaired to yj's and like a sky's kit, if you get say a couple of used 1988 sammie rear spring sets that will give you enough leafs to mix and match and play around with till you find your ride. so 50+40 for used springs =90.00 big ones and some used shocks or 15 dollar each cheap shocks should be ok, 150.00 good to go.
1987,1988,1988,1990 samurai's,  1953 m38a1,  1996 x-90,blue.1996 x-90 red.1994 2 door tracker.   only Dead Fish go with the flow.                No Hairy Nosed Wombats were ran over on the trail today.       My ZUK is Xenophobic.

Thanks mrfuelish.  Im going to relocate my shock mounts and buy some cheapy shocks and see how that rides.  If it is still ruff i will look for some old sammy leafs.  Thanks again for the input.
