annoying death beep
« on: December 16, 2005, 09:26:53 AM »
I have a constant beep coming from my ignition switch.  It starts the minute i insert the key and runs constantly.  I am assuming it is the 'key left in switch' beeper, and that it has frozen of jammed or gotten dirty and wont turn off.  Does anyone have a fix for this? if i could find the noise maker i would be happy just cutting it off if there is no cheap fix.....

thanks

You likley have a bad door switch, which
turns on the beeper, SideKicks beeper goes
off when the engine is started, even with
the door open

I never knew that sidekicks had one for the door/key....owned the truck 8 years, would beep when I left the lights on, that is it.  Then one day...it started working...I sorta looked and was like....what the ****.....worked for about 6 months, stopped and hasn't started back yet. had it 10 years this month in fact.

Never knew why it would need it anyway, you lock the keys in you unzip the back window...:D

Or you just open the back door.  Some of the early models had no lock on the back door!

Like mine. :-\  I'm going to be padlocking my tool box shut and padlocking a chain around it to the center bracket for the rear seat.

I just keep cheap tools in the tracker.  I have a set I got at Sears for $30, and the quality of them isn't too bad.

No key?  Hmmm...guess it makes sense really not much point in it. I saw a locking box somewhere fit behind the back seat and bolted to the floor.  I just have a small set of cheap tools I keep in there also though so not much point in locking them up I guess.

I just ripped a door off a newer tracker and popped it on my '89, I was enthusiastic that day so I even rekeyed the door lock to work with my existing keys  ;D but yeah, I have a fake floor in the trunk to hide shit under, works good.

I think you're right. It is the key in the ignition reminder.

Sometimes the door pinswitch gets tempermental.

I had my DD Tintop for over 2 years. The key reminder beeper just started working the other day. I don't know why it started to work.  ???

I've been told that the actual noise is coming from a beeper located on the back of the instrument cluster. I'm not certain, you may want to double check with someone else that knows.

You might be able to fiddle with the door switch, in the front part of the door jamb, and get it to quit beeping.

Off the subject of the main post but bus_driver, have you ever heard of 303 products?  They make this stuff called Aerospace protector.  Sorta like Armor All on steroids.  Heard about this on a radio car talk show.  Spray it onto your door seals, let it sit for 5 minutes or so, then wipe it all over the rubber with a clean rag.  I did that on my truck that sits outside currently and the doors haven't frozen since.  Granted we haven't been below zero yet but I think it might help you out some.
