The thing I don't like about the 1.8, 2.0, 2.5 engines is that the MPGs seem to be quite a bit lower than the 1.6s.

One of my 4 doors (1.6, 5 speed, 4wd) gets 27-29 MPG.
Another one of my 4 doors (1.6, 5 speed, 4wd) gets 28-32 MPG.

What do you guys get that have the 1.8, 2.0 or 2.5 engines?

Tracker and Sidekick parts for sale.....PM me with your wants/needs.

My Grand Vitara with a 2.5/auto trans/4 door bone stock gets about 17-18, the best I have done on the highway is 22.5.  My girlfriends 2.0 2door/5-speed doesn't really get any better mileage.

I think you're right, Mike! At 5:00 on the gear on the left (int.) there is this small cylinder that looks something like a hydraulic lifter. Spring is under it just as you explained. I'll have to wait till I pull the Aerio's valve cover to see what a good one looks like. I'll post up if you're interested. I guess we're getting a little off your subject tho, man. Soo Solly. But we're lernin' eh? Thanx for the oil info, first thing I checked when we pulled the car in and it was bone dry! No signs of a catastrophic loss, just a bunch of miles between checkin'. The car conked out 500 miles away, on some north bound road in the mountains of West Virginny, I came out of the woods from huntin' turned on the phone, got the news and freaked! By the time I got ahold of her she was driving her U-haul truck , pulling her U-haul trailer with the Tracker on it, telling me it was no big deal! At's my girl! ;)

Yep, that sounds like a hydraulic tensioner. In this case, I think the complete LACK of oil did the job!

OK, OK I now see we are looking for the lowest numbers. My 98 Expedition with a 5.4L Tritan gets 12.2 HA!!!! Wait a minute, that sucks. Now I'm bummed out.

the 1996 97 and 98 sports, and all 99 and newer ones came with the strut tower brace, (in north America as far as i know) you can actually see the change in camber without it. and if you take it off, you wont be able to put it back on with the wheels on the ground. the bolt holes wont line up hahaha

haha im not the only one who had that problem
