I have seen all kinds of things done to modify a Samurai to a particular theme, but I've never seen one made into a "woody"...have you? I have been thinking about it for a quite a while and I think it might be cool for a beach cruiser. Probably would have to use a tin top. I have seen a Willy's 4x4 woody in the past that was pretty cool 

Yep, the 1988 Samurai sales brouchure highlighted their faux wood panel sticker treatment.  It was a convertible too. 

I would probably choose a convertible over a tin top as well.  Nothing like taking the top off around the beach.   

I don't think its really that outlandish an idea.  

I presume you mean a "true" woody, and not the fake woodgrain vinyl treatment.  Before WWII, many station wagon bodies were made of wood and fitted to a standard car body.  Later, they were just wood panels fitted over the metal with wood trim around the panels.  They eventually degenerated into tacky woodgrain vinyl stick-ons.  

Putting a '32 Ford style woody wagon back end on a Sami shouldn't be too difficult.  Since the Sami and Kick are both "body on frame" construction, either could be used.  The drawbacks of course are water damage and dry rot.  Wood bodies are not easy to maintain.

I would say try it.  The wood will be tough to maintain, but a thick coat of poly ought to help a lot.

Cool idea.  Preasure treated lumber should get you out of the maintenance issue.  Just give it a month of atmospheric air drying before you try to build with it.  That stuff is pretty unstable until it dries out.  But once it does, it literally lasts forever.  Modern living through chemistry!
