Just like the title says. Has anyone ever swapped a 2002 DOHC 2.0 liter Tracker/Vitara motor into a first generation (1989-98) 2-door Tracker/Sidekick? I searched many a forum and only found that someone in Australia may have......but still no info on it.

Anyone....at all?    OK, let's say that there was a "kit" to swap a 2000 2.0 liter Tracker/Vitara motor into a 1st Gen Track/Kick.......would anyone want to do this?   Does a bolt-in "kit" that adds an extra 35-50 HP and 45-60 ft/lbs torque sound like a good idea to anyone out there?

i would be interested. very interested actually im in the market for a motor blew old one up. if im gonna spen the money on a 1.6 16v mine as well spring for the 2.0 let me know. or any info on the possibilty.

The Tracker is a whole different ballgame...so to speak. I am more trying to find out if it has ever been done and if so how well the install works with the vehicle and gearing.

Yes please. I'm not sure why it would be much different from a Sammi though. Zaggy started on this conversion a while back, the posts will be on the forum somewhere. I remember he had a custom fywheel made but IIRC the engine and box bolted up.

It works fine considering the Suzuki offered it in a number of markets. The manuals run a 4.6 diff and the 4 speed autos run a 4.875

I've only ever seen the V6 fitted as stock in a first generation.

Hmmm..that's interesting. I would've thought that Europe would have got the 2.0 4cyl in the swb too. We got the 2.0 4cyl in the swb and the 2.0 V6 in the lwb. The Japanese market got the 2.0 V6 in the swb as well as the lwb.

In the UK we only got the lwb V6. I do know that the French got the swb v6. Hmm, Aus is RHD - I wonder how long it would take to drive one back to the UK

Interesting. Here in the states I have dismantled many of the 1999 on up 4-door Tracker/Vitara's and what I have found is that the Auto's have 4.88 and the manuals have 5.13 gearsets in them. Even the automatic version of Suzuki's XL-7 has the 5.13 gears here through 2003 then they went to 4.30 when they changed to a different auto trans (from what I have heard).

My thoughts are that the 2.0 4 cylinder motors will be getting more and more plentiful as the years go by so the swap may be a more common one........if there is a bolt-in "kit" for it. Changing the whole drivetrain is definitely not necessary, but mods to the flywheel, custom motor mounts, custom wiring and much more will be necessary. We'll see.....soon

Here the 2.0 4cyl and 2.0 V6 and ran 4.875's for auto and 4.625's for manual. The GV 2.5 and XL-7 2.7 both ran 4.3 for manual. The GV 2.5 4 spd auto ran 4.875's like the 2.0's but the XL-7 4spd auto ran 5.125's and the 5 spd auto ran 4.3's. That doesn't tell the whole story though as the actual ratios within the autos and manuals also varied somewhat.

The 2.7 V6 out of the XL-7 would be a pretty sweet swap as well. I know 95XL7 has done it, but I haven't heard what "bugs" had to be worked out of theat swap. I have a 2004 XL-7 with only 7000 miles on it which may end up in a Sammy or in a Track/Kick..........
