I have torn the transmisson out of my truck (89 sidekick 4wd 5-speed) And all of the transmissions I have priced around here (West TN) are all like 600 bucks, but I can get the rebuild kit for around 100 I think.  I think there is a bearing down in mine mostly, it whines and has a grinding sound, but will drive.  I am going to pull it out and just see what it looks like inside, I really hate to pay 600 bucks for a transmission that has as many miles on it as mine did when it popped (170k)

Now if anyone can tell me where I can get a used tranny in good shape for the 250-400 range....send me that way.  :)

I did a search on http://www.car-part.com in the southeast since I don't know exactly where you live and found a bunch for less than $400. Guess it depends on how far you want to drive to get it.

Well as per your advice, I found many in east TN for around 400, and a couple in ky above nashville for 350-400, which is still a 4 hour drive for me.

BUT, then I found one in KY about an hour from me at most, and they only want 125 bucks for it! and it is out of a truck that still will drive, and is an 89 identical to mine.

I am going to pick it up tommorow and I will let you know what happens.

Great advice though.  Many Thanks  ;D
