Injector won't energize on 92 Sammy..
« on: February 12, 2005, 12:52:07 PM »
I am having a weird problem with a 92 1.3 Samurai. It won't energize the injector and start up but if i energize the injector with a tester "basicaly adding 12v+ to it to make it open" it idles fine, just can't rev it up..

Does this seem like the injector driver in the ECM is bad?

Thanks
Steve

Injectors usually opperate by grounding
the injector thru the ECM, (the pulse width)
by you adding +12V you are giving the
injector what it needs, sounds like the 12V
isn't getting to the injector, don't know if the
ECM has any control over that tho, might be
a bad connection. If the trucklet idles with a
+ 12 volt added, the ECM is doing the grounding,
look for a bad 12V connection

First off thanks for the reply.. :)

The only way i could get it to pulse was to ground one of the wires and add 12v+ to one of the others then the injector pulsed and let fuel flow..I didn't just put a straight 12V wire to it i am using a injector duty box.It is part of the setup to clean injectors,it is used to pulse injectors while the solvent is flowed through them to clean them..

It isn't getting a ground or a 12V signal to the Injector. So it baffles me..Aside from the fuel issue it idles pretty good, just can't give it any throttle..So if i can get this worked out i think i will be good to go..
I am going to trace the wires down to see if i have a broken circuit somewhere along the line. The truck has 60,000 miles on it and is one of the cleanest Sammy's i have ever seen..

Also the guy said it ran perfect then it just shut off and hasn't ran since.."that is untill i hotwired the Injector"

I also wonder if it could be the crank or cam sensor? "whichever the 1.3's have" But if that was bad wouldn't that cause it to not fire as well?

I don't think that year has a crank
or a cam sensor, I know a 96 16V
has a crank sensor, if you have one
it will be at the front of the engine,
look at the pan, the front isn't straight,
it has a  U shape in it, this is where the
crank sensor is.

I would check the power to the ECM,
tho it could be that the FETs got fried
somehow, FETS ground the injector and
are basicly a heavy duty transistor with
a speed of like .000069 of a second, lets
just say they a really fast.

It sounds like a simple problem, tho on
the surface it's a PITA to figure out, until
it happens to sombody and they figure it
out, like I have with the turn signal wiper
thing, and the blown fuse that runs the ...
wait, check the fuses under the dash, there
is one that is part of the alternator system,
if it has rubbed thru the harness, it blows the
fuse and teh truck will crank but not start,
happened to me twice now, and happened
to somebody else here too, on the one here
the wireing harness rubbed under the intake
manifold, blew the fuse and trucklet stopped

Give that a try

Ohh, I would buy the trucklet, running or not

I'll check that thanks for the tip..
The guy only wants $500 for it and it doesn't have a dent or rust spot on it..the ONLY drawback is it's 2wd not 4wd.But i have a rolled 88 4x4 i can snag the front axle and transfer from later on when i want to mess with it..

Thanks again

Worst case, put a carb on it and add your
4WD stuff   ;)

already thought about that also but have a few questions about that deal..
Are the 1.3 EFI's low fuel pressure? also i would have to swap over all the carb distributor and ignition as well correct?

Just swap the intake, the distributor
will work from the EFI, I don't think the
distributor directly drives the ECU, but
the ECU does get pulse info from some
source.

EFI is high pressure, 36 PSI if I remember,
could be 34 PSI, you could add a regulator,
or swap in a low pressure electric, which is
probably the easiest thing to do, PM Shorytt
for what pump he got, best one I have seen,
we tried some others but they just didn't work
