check o2 sensor
« on: June 05, 2006, 10:09:54 AM »
Does any one know how i can check my o2 sensor to see if its ok bEFORE i buy a new one? when i raised my body on my 92 tracker i pulled some wires bare on the firewall that ran to the 02 sensor. started it up and poped fuses to my fuelpump taped up the wire(s) and still the same. unhook the o2 sensor and runs fine, been running it for 2years without the o2 sensor but with the price of gas now days hey every little bit helps. I run 31x10.50 with 6in lift and 512 gears and am getting between 23-26 mpg. Thanks for any help guys.

i'm no expert here(can't tell can ya) but i'd say that with 31" tires shouldn't that be about the average mpg to expect?  heck i get 27mpg and my tracker is bone stock.... for now :P

also i'm pretty sure that you can take the sensor out and take it to an auto store like autozone or advance auto and they'll actually check it for you.  all it takes i think is to test it with a voltometer or something.  not too hard to do by yourself but you'd need the range it's supposed to operate at and of course the tester too.  then all you do is backprobe the wires and check it.  come to think of it i just read something around here somewhere about that i think.  you may need to have the o2 sensor in though and backprobe it after it's warmed up to make sure it's operating correctly though...  hmmm... guess i'm not much help :P
