Hey there guys,

I'm in Australia and have a 95 vitara and am considering putting Dana 44's out of an International Scout under it. Any tips or ideas for me???

keep the coils and 4 or 3 link it.  well the axles are out rebuild them and lock and gear them.  you might wana shave the axle too for added clearance.  lata stu

I assume you are using Scout II axles if so they are 58.5" wms to wms.  I think the spring mount is cast into the housing so that may cause a problem.  I am putting toyota axles into my sidekick and and orgionally planned on using 44's because they offered strenth, 5.5 on 5 bolt pattern, and where pretty chep but after doing even more research figured that toyota's would  work the best for me in the end.

Good luck with your swap and keep the pics coming.

ya but with yota gears if you put their lowest gears(like 5:71) the pinoin WILL break.  thats why i didn't go the way right from the start.  i would go rear 9in ford and front D44 or D60 if you wanted to get it narrowed.  or what about some hybrid(spell check) 9in center section with mog portal ends?  naw mabey not.  lol lata stu

I wasn't worried about gears because I plan on running a toyota transmission with dual t-cases.

Hey I am in australia as well and have been thinking about doing the solid axle conversion. I have been thinking about fliping a vitara axle to the front and then getting it cut to put Dana knuckles. Put the cost is high, to get this fabricated. have you thought about F-150 front and cutting axle to be the right width..

Let me know what you think...
Lets get wild and show the big  toys how to do it suzuki style.

i would use a 9in ford insted of a stock axle.  you can buy gears all the way up to 7.00:1 for them and they are a ton stronger plus lockers are every where for them.  lata stu

A set of mog axles are 7.56 to 1 ratio!
they come with a cable locker!
portal ends, so massive diff clearance!
About $3,000 canadian $

Add up the cost of your choice of axle + modifying it + plus a locker you can select on or off + lowering the gear ratio + special axle shafts, etc. etc. etc.
And you are still left with a diff dragging on the rocks!!

I got an 89 bronco 5.0L offered to me today cheap enough, complete less body.  I was thinking about using the complete front suspension setup and welding some brackets on to use the stock tractor rear suspension.   I may have to chop a whole lot of that truck out to fit the v8 in though.  You guys may not see me for a while if I start that one. (probably a good thing, I seem to have turned into a post-whore)

A friend of mine told me that a Isusu Rodeo has a Dana 44 in it.  Does anyone know this to be true?

If it is it might be nice to see what the with is.

cut the front part of the frame leaving the suspension intact and weld it to my frame.
