dash tach help?
« on: August 04, 2004, 02:51:15 AM »
I want to swap my dash for another Sammy one that has a Tach.  Has anybody done this?  Is it simple, or do you have do a lot of wiring?   I see them on Ebay all the time.  What about the odometer, too?

Just buy an aftermarket tac.. bolt to the top of the dash and your happinin. Install time even for a noob is about 30-45 min depending on wrenching experience. Id post a pic of mine but its gone MIA.

The JX guage cluster "factory Tach" plugs into the JA harness and works with no additional wiring. Plug and play...

I did the exact same thing with my 91 Sidekick.  Plug and play just like Eric says.  The odometer is a nightmare to roll back though. :(

Sammy is straight forward, just remove the old without, and install the new one with.

It can be taken apart and you can actually set the mileage to exactly the way you had it before...it's a SOB to take it apart, line up the numbers and keep them together to put back in the mechanism.  You can also use a hand drill to roll backwards or forwards...but that can take days...

Did your 91 Kick not  have a tach?  My stripper 90 Tracker has one.  It seems odd that the Zuk wouldn't.

No it did not...being the base model, I guess it wasn't an option.  I only put in the tach cluster a few months ago.  Better late then never. :)

You and me both.  The first time I did it I almost drove off the road and broke my back.

I don't even miss power windows--rolling down windows is easy on both doors for me and I'm short.  Besides they're a pain in the neck to repair.  Power steering defeats the workout of steering.
