exhaust manifold donut still too small
« on: July 28, 2008, 09:37:36 AM »
I am still struggling with the exhaust manifold donut gasket being to small. I have three manifolds (G13A & G13BA) and they are all the same size and clean (one so clean it looks new). I have two donuts, from different sources (gasket kit and parts store), both the same size. No way will either donut go on either exhaust port nipple. I even tried expanding one of the donuts with a tailpipe expander until it showed signs of strain (cracks) ...still won't go on the manifold! No amount of taping or pressing will get one of these donuts on the nipple without destroying it.

Two of the manifolds had old gaskets still in place; same style (metal mesh with compacted graphite?) and had to be pried off with a screwdriver. They weren't frozen on, just rusted on.

One of the donuts came from a gasket kit that was supposed to be good for all 1.3L engines, either G13a, G13B, etc....
While rebuilding the engine every gasket fit so far except the donut. When I purchased a new donut over the counter at the parts store they didn't ask any questions, just sold me one that looked pretty close. Now I have a spare donut that I can mash on if necessary.

There must be a different donut for this thing. Any ideas?
