« on: June 27, 2009, 06:51:43 PM »
What are you guys using to carry extra fuel ? Do you need to get one of those 500.00 - 600.00 racks or is thier a cheaper alturnitive. Want to carry two 5 gal. cans with a stock size tire.

 Thanks J.

What are you driving?  If I need extra fuel I just toss it in back between the spare tire and the tail gate.

i carry 5gal extra in a jerry can. i tried the tire mount carry but thought it stuck that weight out too far for the gate.
i didn't want a separate rack swing away thing to complicate opening the back.
i can siphon into the tank.

i have built stowage in the back. white(i know) tank passanger side.
works real well, doesn't smell, don't have to open gate(just some back window) to fill or dispense, and gives me plenty of range.

I don't mean to hijack your thread - but - is there a reason I shouldn't use a white container for fuel?

i thought it ment "diesel" if it was white.
i stole it from my boat and use it for gas now.
has a "non potable" sticker on it just to further confuse things.

The color codes for cans are ( I think )
 Red -     gas
 Yellow - deseil
 White -  water
 Blue -     not sure

Interesting.

In this country folks seem to use whatever's handy - I've seen gasolene in red, white, yellow & green containers.

If you run with a tank in the passenger compartment on a regular basis it's good to install a vent to the houtside. Also remember that you should not leave the gas in the jug for too long so it doens't go bad.

I ran a Jerry can in the back of the Lj while I was building a fuel tank and found it hard with the fumes. If the 413K I always have a can in the box...the gas guage can be a little off.

I'd shy away from mounting on the spare tire, if it rips the door off it's not good.
