91 tracker, 1.6,8v is there a way to test if the fuel pump is working without taking the fuel tank out of the truck

TURN THE KEY ON WITH OUT ENGAGING STARTER ...NOW LISTEN CLOSELY AT TANK YOU SHOULD HERE IT RUN AT TANK A FEW SECONDS....OR ATLEAST ON MINE YOU CAN...ANY OTHER TIPS OUT HERE.........

take a fuel hose off the TBI, turn the key.  You'll be sure.  Might be a good idea to have something to catch the fuel in.

Isn't there a nipple on the fuel rail to release the pressure when you have to maintenance the injectors?

OK Guys i want to thank you for your help my fuel pump is working, but the truck still dont run, think it could be the throttle body or the PCM it ran the night before and went out there to start it the next moring and it wouldnt start. So where should i start is there a way to check either one of them ? I took the throttle body of the truck thinking i would pick one up at the junk yard but i read a eailery post about the PCM being bad and the truck wouldnt run. The truck did sit for 5 years before being started.

I had that happen with low fuel, ran to where I parked it,
refused to start in the morning, add a gallon of gas...Vroom

wildgoody is right, happened to me too.  Do you have gas up front by the tbi?  Do you have spark?

We had the same problem.  Stopped running.  Wouldn't start and we had spark  (tested by using the old plyers holding on to the spark plug wire at the cylinder trick (OUCH!  be carefull)).

I then checked the fuel at the rail and we had gas at the rail  (There is a nut on the 16Vs you can loosen up to check, turn over key, if you got gas then it should be working, or so I thought.)  
Took it into the dealer and they pressure tested it.  There wasn't enough pressure to run properly.

We had to replace the sending unit in the tank.  
Everything then worked fine!
