Good deal?
« on: May 01, 2012, 07:40:00 PM »
Found this samurai for sale for $1200 relatively close, I haven't owned a samurai yet but have owned a few jeeps in the past but looking to try something new. Haven't had a chance to take a look at it but I am going to go tomorrow and have a look up underneath it to see how it looks tomorrow. Don't know how many miles are on it etc.

Anything I should be looking out for specifically with these vehicles when I go take a look tomorrow? It comes with the plow and he said it runs well. From the prices I have seen around these area this seems relatively cheap. what do you guys think?

                                                                                                                                                       Thanks.

Edit: Also Let me apologize in advance if this is the wrong place to post this (=

I would see what he was plowing and how often, more plowing = more wear on the drive train. But either way that sounds like a good deal to me

Standard things to look for, such as rust in the fender wells and the like.  It looks pretty clean, did he only take it out on snow days?  :D

I went and took a look at it today, the frame is really clean, the rust on the fenders is another story, he said it was getting pretty rusty so he put that metal on the fender panels/real quarter panels, so basically he said there was a decent amount of rust under where he put the metal on the body but it still looks pretty clean. Where the diamond plating is it is pretty rotten on the other side.
The tires we all pretty soft when i got there so i didn't take it for a test drive but he did start it and it fired right up with no hesitation. He said he only used it for driving up on his back hill and plowing his driveway in the winter and the driveway is a pretty small driveway.

From they way he is talking I am quite sure I can get it for $800 after i go test drive it tomorrow if it runs well.

Divorced t-case, it is nice because you can put lower gears in it for running larger tires.

What do you plan on doing with it?  Clean it up for a daily driver or just use it for wheeling?  You will have to decide if you want a project rig knowing what needs to be done with the fenders.

But for 800, I would buy it in a second.  :D

What I am looking for is something to drive in the winter when the snow gets bad up here on the hills and also take down south to the beach when I go down in the summers. I would probably get a lift from RR and get some 31's for it.

If I do get it I will most likely just sell the plow and put the money towards the tires.

Get it cheap and don't bother to fix any rust if your gonna take it to the beach. If it runs that well it's a pretty good deal. TEST EVERYTHING!
