Paint on front bumper.
« on: February 16, 2009, 07:32:52 PM »
I had my front bumper painted a while back and the paint is starting to peel off the bumper. Hitting that tree last year seemed to help the peeling too. My question is what is an easy way to strip the rest of the paint off. I just want to have black bumpers and not deal with getting them repainted. Hopefully somebody here is a body guy and will know the magic stuff that strips it off w/o any effort ;)

run to walmart/ your local parts store and pick up "aircraft paint remover" comes in a blue and white bottle, spray it on.... wait like 2 min and rinse/rub off all your paint..... works like a charm!

Will it discolor the plastic under the paint? If not that sounds like the stuff for me!

It is black all the way through - I just don't want it to discolor the black - turn it white or something. I will just try a small amount on a corner of the bumper.

let me know how it goes, I use it all the time, never tried it on plastic though I use it for valve covers and general metal paint stripping

I used a power washer on my front cover and it dug "tracks" in some spots (too many coats of paint and filler for the aircraft stripper) but the stripper did a great job on the rear. Cleared to black plastic and then a little wet/dry sandpaper to finish

try an air blower if it peeling already that works at the body shop you can sand it off with 180 grit on a DA sander then step down to a finer grit gradually till you get down to 1000 grit
