88 Samurai on 31's
« on: June 30, 2010, 01:01:28 PM »
I have an 88 Samurai with a completely stock 1.3L engine in it with no other mods.

Is it true that the samurai wont have enough power to even get up a hill with 31's on it???

Depends on the hill or at what speed you want to crest the hill.

My '87 samurai came with stock 1.3, 31" tires and 5.12 diff gears.
It did not have the power to maintain much speed on any type of a hill or even a slight long incline at freeway speeds. I would guess a stock setup up one would fair alot worse.
Now low range and low gear it would walk around the little hils fine BUT I had the 5.12 diff gears.

One of the best mods done on mine was the 1.6 16v swap. More power for everything on and off road.
