 I am new to this forum and just purchased my second sami with a 12 year lapse in between.  I had to overhaul the tranny before I could check the condition of the rest of the machine, because the kid had the trans in the back seat.  Anyway, I got everything hooked up and guess what....The clutch will not disengage!!  I have tried making it super tight to super loose. Nothing.  Another funny issue  (i only have a front driveline, rear on is being overhauled) when I start in 1st and transfer case in 4high, the vehicle doesn't move but the shafts are rotating, Yes the hubs are locked!  The drivers side wheel kinda pulses but doesn't rotate.  Do I need to have  a rear shaft in to provide resistance. Like an open differential in the transfer case??  Please help......I work on helicopters for a living and don't like getting beat by this Zuki!!

Kenny your throwout bearing is stuck in one spot on the shaft it rides on. It's a common thing once the trans has a few miles on it. Petroworks has the fix, they machine a brass sleeve for the shaft, it costs around 35.00 plus shipping and they will need your old one or you have to pay a core charge.
   It also sounds like you have a broken axle in the front or a broken pinion. I would lean towards a broken axle or birfield joint as a pinion will make noise when it's turning.

You might have a bad clutch cable, what you describe is you have a clutch driving the trans
all the time.

And you might also have rusted hubs that are not engaging, lift the tire off the ground and see
if the hub is freewheeling or turning an axle, this will all be by feel because you cannot see the
axles turning.

UFI: Wildgoody, you hit the nail on the head with the hubs deal!!  Took apart the driver's side and it was bone dry. Another nasty surpise was also waiting for me under that hub!!  The outer wheel bearing, or what was left of one. So following a trip to the part store and to work for a press that issue is fixed!!  Now the zuk travels fore and aft uncontrollably!!

 Thats what I thought too, but it is a new bearing and grease applied to the shaft that it rides on.  I am able to move the clutch fork lever with a pair of pliers so I don't think it's stuck.  I don't know how long this rig was setting with no trans installed.  Is is possible for the friction disk to be frozen (rusted) to the fly wheel... 

Tomorrow I am going to try driving around the block pumping the clutch pedal and see if it will free itself.  If not I guess that freshly rebuilt trans will be coming back out so I can diagnose the clutch and probably replace it.  This will teach me to shop on craigslist!!!! 

I have had clutches frozen to flywheel.  Sometimes they can be broken loose by hitting starter with transmission in highest gear and clutch in/disengaged.  As you are not working with very many cylinders or high compression, it may not work.
Also the possibilty PO may have installed the clutch backwards.

BINGO!!!!  That worked like a champ.  Only had to go about 1/2 block and she busted loose.  So I rode the clutch pedal for about another 1/2 block to bust off the excess rust!!  Now just waiting for that rear driveline to get here.
