how hard do you push your rigs on highway?
« on: January 06, 2004, 07:46:32 AM »
I find myself at 3/4 or more throttle in 4th to keep up with traffic on the highway.  I dont think the engine can take my 60 mile each direction comute much longer, can it?

I kow they like to rev, but how do they like full throttle hours on end? I usually take it to 4000 in fourth, depending how the wind blows I can throw it in 5th.  Last coupkle days it's beem windy, cant go more than 5000 in 3rd, if I shift to 4th, I bog right down.  That's with 33x12, running 15 psi. any more than 18 psi and I start running on a really narrow track.  It's faster, but I dont want to wear these tires unevenly

Damn wind blows the other way, no matter if I'm coming or going.  I think the direction changes just for me.

That rpm is nothin, I would just run like a napa gold filter and change the oil every 2500 miles and call it good. I run a syn. blend in mine and run it like that all the time! some times I get a bad tank of gas and have to add some super to it or back off of the timing.

Ok, lets try again.  I know it likes to rev, it doesn't always sound like it does but she likes it.  We are still talking about the truck.  Will she take full throttle for an hour each way  for months on end?

is there any other way with a 1.3???  i'm at about 4500 feet where the air is thin and you loose about 7% per 1000 ft in elevation and with age about a 40% loss in power so mine is wide open most all the time and will only do about 45 mph up a slight grade. with a stock carb, exhaust, ect. have the 4 to 1 x-fer case to lower the gear ratio a little bit, thats it. no fifth gear for me!

With my 1.3 Sammy motor, the foot is ALWAYS on the floor.  I'm on 32's with a transfer case re-gear, and I still need more gear.  Into a strong headwind, I can barely hold 45 if I drop to third and hammer it...

Time for a 1.6  ;D
