Heim Joint dilemma for V-bar of 3-inch calmini
« on: February 15, 2009, 08:13:09 AM »
I changed the heim joint of the v-bar of my 3-inch calmini setup about 2 years ago since I was starting to hear annoying grinding sounds already even when running in paved roads.  Changing it was the solution.  I got in touch with calmini techs and collaborated with spidertrax support and they told me that the part number was FKB-JMX12T from FK bearing.  This is what I ordered  2 years ago:    http://www.spidertrax.com/s.nl/it.A/id.1534/.f?category=294

Presently, I'm starting to hear those grinding sounds again so I guess its time to change it.  I understand that there is a high misalignment version, the FKB-HJMX12T:  http://www.spidertrax.com/s.nl/it.A/id.1534/.f?category=294

As far as I can remember, Spidertrax support told me before that unless the rod end is binding in its mount, I'd probably want to stay with the standard rod end (JMX12T).

Since I'll be purchasing one again, I'd just like to know your opinion guys if getting the high-misalignment version (HJMX12T) would be better.  Does a high misalignment version mean that it would be more durable than the standard one.

Would like to see some feedback before I decide to order.  Thanks guys!

Does it have a grease fitting? If not I would try and find one that does. You can use any heim joint as long as the threads and hole are the same size. You would probably get a less wear and tear with a grease able one. Other then that there is nothing to really do. They just wear out. Or try to find a rebuildable one.

Unfortunately they don't have any grease fittings.  They are just PTFE sealed and coated.

The other advantage of the Johny Joints is if they go bad you can rebuild them.  :)

You can use these to reduce the hole size

i've been thinking about this for awhile, but would it be possible to put a boot over the heim joint?  Also, as far as greasing goes, grease-able bolts, might help to some extent. http://www.jeeperz-creeperz.com/1213-greaseable-bolt-p-4177.html
