Trying to find a 4speed auto in a kick right now. My problem is that most of the people I contact know NOTHING about their cars.

After looking at them, I really think the 5.12 setup in a 4speed on a smaller 30 (29.5ish) is the combo for me.

But getting people to say whether it's the three or four speed has been near impossible.

Generaly the 3spd came on the 2dr and 4spd on the 4dr track/kicks and X90's.

2 door vehicle, 3 speed auto. 4.62's 89-94, 4.30's 95-98.

4 door vehicle, 4 speed auto 5.12's.

Visually looking at the Shifter, the 3 speed will have a "Thumb" button to release the shifter and be like a T-handle.

The 4 speed will have a "Thumb" button to release, and a Overdrive On/Off button too, below the Thumb button. It's kinda palm shaped.

The 4 speed also has a "P and N" (power and normal) rocker switch located down in the upper right corner of the shifter console....that most people don't seem to know what is (the rocker switch, that is).

There does exist a 4dr with the 3sp (in USA), I think 92-93 only?

IMHO, the 3sp auto is pretty nice because of the gearing for off-road usage.

Why?  The 91 4 doors with the 3 speed auto just have regular 4.62 thirds.
Now if you are talking the ones with the 5 speed, then they have the 5.38s.  I got 2 sets of the 5.38s.  Complete thirds.  $500+ the ride per set (1 front, 1 rear third).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I undersand the 5.12s with a lighter set of 30s to be a nice daily driver combo.

I'm thinking a four door kick with a lift, bumpers, and recovery winch might be quite the machine.  No hills around here besides the Mississippi river bridge in BR.

5.12s on the highway with 30s would net 65 mph at 3200k or so?

As long as I kept the tires lighter, wouldn't stock gearing actually be improved by the tires for highway use?



So all four doors that are obd2 that aren't a sport edition should have the 1.6l with the four speed if an auto?

I have a 98'sidekick and even though the tires I have are supposedly a 31x10.5x15 they actually measure only a hair over 30" at 28psi. At that pressure the ride is very harsh and there is no sidewall flex, at 20psi the ride is far better and I can obtain 65mph on the highway as long as the road is flat or only a slight uphill grade anything more and then I need to downshift to maintain the speed.

Not exactly. 
If you are talking 96-98 4 doors, then you are right.  But 99+ 4 doors can have several different engines....1.6, 2.0, V6, etc.

Doh, brain fart ... and not really looking for 5.38's at the moment anyway.
At one point, I had swapped a 3spd into a 16v 4dr (originally a '93 5spd man) and was on the hunt for an ECU to get the TCC working, but that rig is gone now ...
