I need some advice.
« on: January 15, 2004, 04:22:00 PM »
Ok,

i was looking at the spring spacers for sidekicks, i was wondering if i used springs from a 4 door sidekick on my 2 door sidekick combined with the spring spacers and the appropriate sized shocks would that give me about 2 inches of lift?  would that be safe without getting new control arms? o yah i would also space out the struts.

any ideas or sugestions woul dbe greatly appricated (spell check)

thank you kindly

I "made" a longer front spring out of the stock
2 door coils and a section of the 4 door coils, now
I'm wishing I used the 4 door complete coil and
added the section from my 2 door.

With the 2.5 x8" rockcrawlers on the front sags a
little, not bad, has a great ride I noticed over speed
bumps, but if you push it hard it bottoms out too easy
for my liking, I was hitting 1.5 to 2 ' whoops and it took
them well, then the occasional deep one popped up and
bang, bottomed out, I got plenty of compliments about
how it ws handling the whoops, but I knew I needed more
spring to take the bigger stuff.

Good Luck

4 door springs for the front, the back doesn't
seem to be affected by the wheels like the front is.
The front is a lever, with the A-arm, so the longer the
lever, the higher poundage on the springs is needed.

Heather did a BDS (is this right ?) rear spring from a h33p
lift and put it in the back of her 4 door, says it's better,
I think she wrote it up on here site, this is a mod I want
to do, now that I know which spring to get in there.

I lifted my tracker about 3" using GrandVitara springs . The front worked great!

The back however didn't fitaxactly right |removethispart|@ the cup in the axle properly.
I broke all the rules by heating and bending/. chilling with H20  to fit the cup.  I also streached the  springs a little after for length.  I finally got them to fit one spring  broke just bouncing the rig in the shop (I cooled it a bit too early)
so........since I was already breaking the rules  I just welded it back togeather . they are still in there and working fine but the rear does sit a tad low.
YMMV

We did a test to see how much 4 door coils actually lifted a 2 door. Its only 1/2 inch.  :-[ Unless youve got a set laying around its not really worth it.

but if i got 1 and a half inch coil spacers ( i think they are one and a half inches) it would equal out to about 2"? Quick question about the spacers do they actually go in the front and the back?

*cowtracker: hows the acutal ride with the grand vitara springs is it safe?*

yes it's safe..... if I drive safe ;D  seriously though though, I comute to work 60 miles everyday on some twisty carppy road that is constantly sliding off tward the ocean.....  the state of Oregon is relentsly repairing it  but you can't win battling the forces of nature.

The front end  comes about an inch of topping out I  checked the wheel alignment after the install and found the toe was right on but the camber +1.5 degrees both sides.....a little more than I like.
the back has more travel but It needs to come up a bit more. I plan to relocate the bottom shock mount if nessary

I am planing to new make a top strut to corect the camber and space the strut down for more downward travel.

Tis stuff has got to wait cuz the timing belt is overdue 20 miles and
I hit a stump last weekend and killed the crosmember   :o
so a skidplate is high on the list of prioreties ;)

For a cheap lift you can pick up 2" coil spacers from a heep tj or xj I believe. Make some 2" spacers for your strut tops and grind out the top hole of the two lower strut holes to make a fast and easy camber adjustment. I did this on mine and it worked great. I've since changed it again but that was a good low buck lift. You'll need to hit up Lordco or similar and get them to find a set of shocks that are 2 inches longer than stock for  the rear.
