jeepbox?
« on: September 12, 2005, 04:38:46 PM »
I was interested in mounting a jeepbox in the back of my soft top samurai.  I contacted the manufacturer and was told the smaller sammy box is no longer made but the full size would fit in the back if the rear seat was removed.  Does anyone have one, and will it fit under a duster cover or will I have to use the bigger rag top?  Since my sammy will be a daily driver once I get it back on the road I need a way to lock stuff up in it, the box seems like a good solution.

I use one of the plastic ones from wal-mart(like 34.00)it fits between the fenderwells good but I had to move the seat forward about 7 inches(the dog does not know the diffrence)And I can fit alot of junk in there and I ran a couple of bolts(the threads are in the floor already)with large washers through the floor of the box to hold it in place, not sure how safe the stuff is inside being plastic but have seen alot of truck boxes here that have been broken into with crowbars so your just keeping the honest people out and maybe helping with your insurance if you loose something spendy. and yes you can cover it with a snap cover over the bed,Not sure that the steel box would be any better but the plastic is quieter off road.

If I was going the "high dollar" route, I would go with Tuffy's oversized security drawer:

As it is, though, I have a huge plastic tub bolted in the back, from Wally World.

:o Holly poop  :o That thing looks like a safe in the back. Have you sized it up to see how well it will fit in your ride?

I believe I did - it WILL fit in the back of a 2-door, and they even have a "cage" that bolts on top of it, to hold "loose stuff".
