Larger tire on a Tin Top
« on: April 13, 2004, 06:13:49 AM »
Has anyone cut/knocked/kicked/hammered  :o the wheel wells on a Samurai to fit  P235/75R15 (28.95â€? overall diameter) or an LT30X9.59R15 (29.3â€? diameter) tires?  Will they fit? Should I, or will I have to buy the wheel spacers?  I’m looking to “liftâ€? the axles up a little.  Will my 88.5 Samurai with a 1.6, 8V turn those tires if they will fit?  Thanks.

My daily driver soft top had 30's on it with just a little trimming of the bumper brackets. Having said that remember that all tires are slightly different.

I’m keeping this a daily driver also with off road capabilities.  I got those dimensions from Cooper Discoverer SST’s.  I’m guessing most tires will be in the ballpark.  Is the spacing/off set of the rim a factor during a tight turn?

It would rub a tiny bit at full sterring lock and full compression.

Would larger shackles keep it from rubbing?  I was thinking 1-3/4" larger than stock.
