Lift for my 91 sammy DD

Thinking of doing a lift for my sammy. dont know where to start how much etc. help,like i said its my dd so i want it safe! and cheap im married so wifey will kill me if i spend alot of $$$.

How much lift do you want? A little more specifics would be helpful.

Maybe 4 in. I know nothing about lifts or anything like that. kinda new to samurai's, so the help is greatly appreciated. ;D

If you want to do a simple lift and keep it spring under axle,
In my opinion there are no better lift springs than 3" Deavers. You could run that with an aftermarket shackle... With this lift you can run some 30 x 9.5. maybe a 31 but that might be a bit much...
Might be cheaper to do a spoa though...

You can do a ghetto SPOA for around $100 but it may be kinda doggy as with the larger tires.

I would do ann spoa (leaf spring over axle) this will give you 4 to 5 1/2 inches depnding on perch styles, you will need a weekend or a helping hand like myself, a welder, a grinder, and I would recommend (for a dd) buying a Z link of some sort to reduce bump steer. good luck pm me if you have any q's

For 4" of lift - my recommendation is SPOA.

LOADED Cost for everything (tires, gearing, lift) from vendors: $4000-$6000
The more you fabricate / scrounge junk yards yourself, the more $$$ you save, but the more time you'll be spending (and staying away from the nagging wife).

If you can fabricate things (read - cut & weld metal), you can do a 4" SPOA on-the-cheap. Search the forums for "extended break lines". You can salvage some from some Geo and Toyota vehicles |removethispart|@ junk yards. You'll need jeep (CJ or YJ) springs.

YOU WILL NEED STEERING GEOMETRY CORRECTION

Look for Mercedes over the top (OTT) for the cheapest option here.

NAPA shocks = $80 for the set, or go dostech for more $$$ (built-in bump-stops though) and better ride.

You'll need to make new bump-stops, or the dostech shocks.

Keep in mind - the little 1.3L engines are going to have a much harder time spinning those 31" tires, so you'll probably want to change gearing ($550ish after shipping). The 31" tires on backspaced wheels can quickly run up to $2000 by themselves.

Have you considered a moderate / cheaper (calmini shackle-reversal) lift with 29" M/T tires and welded rear diff? You might be shocked at what you could do with this setup... and could be much happier with the lower CG / better gas mileage / ease of install / more power.

Skys 4.5 deluxe spring over kit is $485
Comes with everything, you would just need do like a stage 1 high steer to correct the geometry of that.
You can get 31 bfg mud terrains for about 150 apiece.
You could find a rim at a junkyard that would fit a 31X10.5 just fine, 5 on 5.5 is a pretty easy lug pattern to come across.
The one thing that starts getting the price up is definitely the tires, once you go bigger you need to re gear your rig.  You could gear the diffs down or you could get T-case gears.  A 4.16:1 Gear set up is $400.

With a total of $1485 (not including the price of rims and shipping, handling, tax.)
I'm not sure what your budget  is for this thing, but you could get the bare necessities, such as lift and gears then try and get your tires and rims used (www.craigslist.com) and that would bring your price down quite a bit.

 I did my spoa for 40 dollars total, 20 per pair of spring perches from six states distributers, and a piece of concrete stake I had laying around I cut and lenthened my drag link adding gussets with some other scrap, welded my diffs, cut off the old perches and welded on new ones, if you swap the ubolts and plates driver side to pass and bend the bolts a little, u can use your stock shocks with the plates on top the distance doesn't change, also cut the brackets for the brake lines so they hang use zip ties for new brackets, I know this is not the best way, when I got my sami it was going to be a hunting rig only, and it worked great, also made some revolver shackles for free! still use them, as for the rest 8000 bucks later its all been changed but so have my zuks capabilitys!
